I keep requesting a password reset for my son's account. It says it has emailed me my new password but i never receive anything. How does this work?

Try checking your spam, sometimes account emails go into my spam.

I think when u clicked forgot password and u put an email in to send u a link to make a new 1 u put in a different 1 then ur minecraft email
