Is there any specific way to get your player head to fill the screen in your profile picture?

It does fill the square doesn't it? If it doesn't, maybe do what Trenly said. Save it, crop it, and upload it as a custom image?

Click your name in the top right corner of the forums page:

You should see a drop-down box. Click the Avatar Button:

From there, select "Use Minecraft Profile Avatar" and type your current username :)
