I never got it either, but the bow is rarely 1 hit kill, usually 2, sometimes even 3. Also it has a large recharge (like 5-10 seconds, idr) and gets caught on vines, ladders, pressure plates etc. Also remember it only has 5 enderpearls, unlike enderman, and the eye of ender does like no damage...
