I was thinking it would be very nice to be able to use pressure plates on other people's islands. Sometimes, you're trapped inside their house, and can't go and observe their island.
About a year ago, I played on a server that would have you place a sign saying "[ACCESS EVERYONE]" and then anyone could use that item (whether crafting table, pressure plate, lever or even enchantment table).
If you have say, free items (like, free cobble), you could have a dispenser that everyone could use. But if you didn't want someone doing something, just have a plan door, or something else. So, some things are useable by all, others by only the island occupants.
