    1. Creating an account
In order to post on the HHG forums you need to make an account. Start by clicking the "Sign up now" button found on the right side of the page.
Clicking that button will bring up the login box at the top of the page. In this box you need to select "No, create an account now." then click "Log in" leaving all other fields blank.
This will bring you to the signup form. Fill this out completely, and then click "Sign up"
You should then be brought to a screen that says your account is awaiting confimation. Go to your email and you should see a message from the forums which includes a link to confirm your account. Click on this link.

    2. Viewing and Replying to Threads

When you log in to forums, you will be greeted with the home page. This page is a list of all the categories that threads fall under. As an example, this thread is in the "Tutorials, Guides and Server Help" category since it is a tutorial. Similarly, suggestions should be in the suggestions category, bug reports in the bug reports category, and so on. On the right side of your screen, you will see some useful information. This includes information about your profile, online staff, and some of the latest posts.
Any categories that contain recent replies you have not read will be a dark blue, and any in which you have read all the recent replies will be light blue. To view the threads in a category, simply click on the name of the category. This will bring up a list of threads in that category. If you have not read the most recent replies in a thread, there will be a blue dot next to the thread. Also in the thread view, there is some information about each thread such as when it was created, who last replied, and how many views the thread has.
To read a thread, again just click on the name. This will bring up the original post, as well as all the replies to it. At the bottom of the thread is a box where you can reply. In your reply you may find that you want to quote what somebody said, to add a quote to your message select the option of "+ Quote" under all the messages you would like to quote. Scrolling down to the reply box, you have many options in how to format your reply; most of them are detailed in the image below. However, to insert your quotes you will need to click the "Insert Quotes" button, this will bring up a dialogue confirming you want to quote those messages. Click "Quote these messages" to insert the quotes.
Once you have finished typing your post, click the "Post Reply" button. This will make your post visible to everyone. After that, you are finished making a reply!

    3. Creating Threads

There are many reasons you may want to create a thread of your own. Perhaps you want to make a suggestion, ask a question, or report a player. Each of these require making a thread. First, go through the categories on the forum home page, and select the one which is most relevant to what you want to do. At the top of each category, there is a button which says "Post new thread"; click on this to get started.
You should be taken to the screen where you create a thread. Some categories require Prefixes. These currently are Suggestions, Bug Reports, and Maps and Worlds; all of which require you to specify which gamemode you are referring to. To add a prefix, simply click where it says "(No prefix)" and scroll until you find the correct prefix. Click on the prefix you want to add to your thread to select it.
The final step is to write your thread. This is done in the exact same way as making a reply to a thread. For more information on the formatting you can use, see Viewing and Replying to Threads. After you have everything just the way you want it, click "Create Thread" to post it!

    4. How to Upload a Forum Signature

The first part of adding an image to your signature is to convert the photo to a url. There are many websites which allow you to do this. I personally use Imgur, but other sites like Tinypic or Flickr will work as well. The first step is to upload your image to the site. On Imgur, begin by selecting the "New Post" button near the top of the screen.
This should bring up a box with options to upload a photo. Most likely you will want to use the browse button to navigate through your files and find the image you want to upload. On Imgur, the other options are drag and drop, or pasting a URL or photo. The Imgur interface looks like the photo below. I have gone ahead and uploaded a photo for the purposes of this tutorial.

Once you have uploaded your photo you need to get the URL of the image. Note that this is different than the URL of the page the image is on. There are multiple ways to do this. I find that the easiest way on Imgur is to put your mouse in the upper right corner of the image and to hover over the arrow that appears to show the dropdown menu. Then, once the menu appears, click on "Get Share Links"
This will bring up a screen with multiple ways to share the image. This forum is based on BBCode, so use the copy button next to the link which is underneath "BBCode (Forums)". An alternate way to get this URL is to right click on the image and select "Copy Image Address"

This will copy the URL to your clipboard. The next step involves putting this image on your forums account, so log into the forums. Near the top of the screen you will see your username, then "Inbox" and "Alerts". Click on your username to bring up your profile menu. Then, Click on "Signature"
This will bring up your current signature inside a post box which will allow you to edit it. Here you can add in text, images, videos, and anything that you could put in a normal post. To insert our image, you will need to remember how you copied the image URL earlier. If you used the copy button next to the BBCode link, simply paste in the code. If you used the method of copying the image address, click the icon of the small picture and paste the URL into the box which appears.
After inserting the image, and adding any text or other media you would like to add you should preview your signature to make sure it is the way you want it. This is done by clicking the preview button shown in the images above. Once you have your signature the way you want it, click on "Save Changes". This will save your signature and make it appear under every post you make on the forums.

    5. How to Private Message Someone

First, log in to forums. Near the top of the screen you will see your username, then "Inbox" and "Alerts". Click on Inbox to bring up the conversations menu. Here you will see your recent conversations, and two options at the bottom. One to view all your conversations and one to start a new conversation. Since we want to private message somebody, we will start a new conversation.
This will bring up a screen that looks very much like creating a thread. The only difference between a conversation and a thread is that only the participants can view a conversation. Fill in all the fields, and write your message. When finished, click "Start a Conversation" at the bottom!

    6. How to Update Your Forums Username

When you change your minecraft username, you may want to update your username on forums to match your IGN. First, log in to forums. Near the top of the screen you will see your username, then "Inbox" and "Alerts". Click on your username to bring up your profile menu. Then, Click on "Update Username".
This should automatically update your forums username. If it does not, start a private message with Zainos asking him to change your username to your new IGN.

    7. Forum Rules

As with most things, there are rules as to what you can and cannot do here on forums. These rules are posted on the Rules Page but I have included them here also. Please keep in mind, these may not be up to date so be sure to double check the official rules page before posting.
